Today in Mrs. Manley's 5th grade reading classroom, they were getting ready for the Thanksgiving/Fall season. In order to understand the difference between facts and opinions, they tried different holiday pies and wrote down how they felt, and what was true on a piece of paper. Every piece of pie was gone and every student walked away knowing the difference between facts and opinions. What a fun way to kick off the upcoming break! Also, big shoutout to our own Stevella Brown in Mrs. Propst's class! She baked her own Bundt Cake for her peers to try for this activity. It was absolutely delicious!

1st Grade Music students participated in Thanksgiving stations. They did a rhythm write the room, colored a mystery image, read some music books, and explored the electric pianos. Students loved all the choices.

Today is the start of American Education Week! We are honored to serve as our community’s local school system, and we want to thank everyone who supports public education in so many ways. We want to send a special shout-out to our teachers and staff, who do incredible things in our buildings and classrooms each day. Please know you’re appreciated!

Students in first grade and Melody Makers of WPES, presented the annual Veterans Day program. This concert honors the Veterans of our country. Many students have family members serving and-or currently serving. They were proud to sing to show support for all branches of the military!

Congratulations! WPMHS One-Act team won Super Regionals! They will advance to States on December 2... Go Pointers!

Today, we honor those who have served our country in such meaningful ways. We are forever grateful. Happy Veterans Day!

Ms. Bland’s third grade class is using their flexible seating options in the classroom thanks to the Dream Grant! With a set of lap desks for the whole class, instruction can be carried out on the carpet. Learning together on the carpet reinforces classroom community and promotes student engagement!

First Graders at WPES wrapped up their unit on Jamestown and the Powhatan Tribe with a field trip to Jamestown Settlement. Students got to have hands-on experiences that Powhatan children would have done, as well as, learned about sailing from England on the ships. The guides complimented the children on their knowledge and the great questions they asked! Fun day of experiences was had by all!

Kindergarten students in Ms. VanMegroet's class are learning about Fall! Students painted leaf ornaments, and learned about pumpkins to get ready for our annual Kindergarten field trip to Holly Fork Farm.

WPES 5th graders entered a transformed music room this week decked out with black lights! This was a Spooky escape room. Students had to solve music puzzles to find the correct code word. They tested their knowledge of rhythms, dynamics, and music vocabulary as they solved clues along the way. Students were engaged and excited!
